Academy Demonstrates Its Support For Oppressed Sea Creatures With Best Picture Nod

In a tense year overloaded with heavy meaning, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences did not shy away from sending a powerful message by awarding the Oscar for Best Picture to The Shape of Water.

“We want all hybrid fish-humans to know we stand with you.”

Hollywood emphatically rejected the argument that it is more comfortable expressing its approval in vague allegorical terms, rather than honoring bold singe-issue social justice movies made by members of the very groups affected.

“This is exactly the kind of obfuscation that leads to mutated sea creatures continuing to be unaccepted in our society. And we refuse to play along.”

Their concern, they claim, is to support the most marginalized, forgotten social justice movements that everyone else ignores to their shame.

“There is #BlackLivesMatter, there is #MeToo, but where is #PartiallyCrustaceanLivesMatter?”

  1. Maybe if Fewer stopped posting about participating in the social justice cause du jour and started doing her job addressing our safety (strongarm robberies), security (car break ins, drugs), transport (MUNI), housing ($1.2M+ 2br family homes), and economic concerns (vacant storefronts, development) we wouldn”t have fluff projects like this to make affluent young liberals happy. You all realize we have a lot of low income, non-English speaking immigrants in our district who need help, right? Try canvassing the neighborhood and talk to real people. Poor people without internet access or the language skills can”t fill out fru-fru online surveys.
