The entertainment company Hulu today confirmed the long-awaited debut of Season Five of its hugely popular drama The Handmaid’s Tale, which will be available for binge viewing in the coming months. Unusually for the series, it will deviate from its fictional origins with new episodes consisting entirely of a live stream of deliberations by the US Supreme Court. Hulu executives asked people not to be put off by the new format, and reassured fans the show they love will not be any the less exciting.
“In fact we expect Season Five to include some of the darkest, most stomach-turning episodes to date, featuring plenty of disgusting patriarchal villains and the vile women who enable them.”
The show’s creators said they were sad to lose their gifted staff of writers and powerhouse acting talent, but they couldn’t justify not switching to the SCOTUS live stream as it was simply far darker and more dramatically compelling than anything they could come up with.
“Frankly, our scripted fictional portrayals of an ultra-misogynistic dystopia were tame by comparison.”
Early reviews suggest the new season will feature some of the most shocking and soul-crushing developments of the entire run of the show.
“We even worried if it was ethical to air something as depraved as this, but we need to pay the bills.”
