[Heinz Field, November 1] With Ben Roethlisberger returning to lead the Steeler offence against the Bengals, backup quarterback Michael Vick was there to wish him luck and to show him some medical literature on the benefits of extended healing times for knee injuries.
“You can’t be too careful, Ben.”
Roethlisberger assured him he was cleared to play, which prompted Vick to usher Big Ben into a corner of the locker room so he could whisper privately in his ear.
“Listen, I know a lot about injuries – they may be dog injuries but it’s the same principle – and I don’t think you should be out there yet. The staff aren’t looking out for you – they answer to the owners, man!”
Roethlisberger thanked Vick for his concern and made his way onto the field.
Vick, who at 35 has only a few years left in the game, was last seen yelling “That shit will give you brain damage!” in Roethlisberger’s direction before being asked to leave.
