(State Department) Secretary of State Mike Pompeo took time today to explain the President’s decision to suspend a nuclear arms treaty with Russia in light of how negatively it has been received.
“The reason is simple – you don’t have treaties with your boss.”
He took reporters through the reasoning behind the decision step by step.
“If you have a treaty with someone, but they are also your boss, they can tell you to ignore the treaty and you have to comply. So this is simply a recognition of reality.”
Pompeo said it is easiest to understand by thinking of Russia as a corporate CEO and the Trump administration as someone working in the mailroom.
“Ultimately what management says is law, no matter what treaties the mailroom clerk thinks he’s entered into.”
