After suggesting NFL owners fire players who ‘take a knee’ to display solidarity with minorities, President Trump has taken flak for being opposed tooth and nail to political gestures.
The President quickly rejected this criticism today, says he is in truth such a fan he say is considering making it mandatory that he be saluted by US citizens whenever they encounter them.
“People are always telling me how important it is to show respect for the Office of the Presidency and this seems like a great way to do it.”
He’s confident that it will be a popular measure as all the people he meets when he holds rallies in West Virginia and the Deep South seem in favor.
“All across America I meet people who seem to love giving salutes so I thought why not?”
Trump says he is open to what form the compulsory gesture honoring him will take, so long as it doesn’t interfere with those of the armed forces.
“We don’t want it to be too similar to our military salutes, so something that doesn’t involve bending at the elbow or touching your head perhaps.”
