[From our Rio correspondent] As if US swimmer Ryan Lochte being robbed at gunpoint while out on the town wasn’t enough, pole vaulter Sam Kendricks has also been held up at gunpoint with his assailant still at large.
The incident occurred while Kendricks was attempting a record breaking vault to grab the gold at the Olympic stadium. Fortunately nothing was taken as Kendricks doesn’t carry his wallet on him when he is propelling himself 20 feet into the air using a long pole.
Authorities believe thieves now view athletes who out on the town as too vigilant, so they are instead targeting them when they are competing and are therefore much more distracted.
A description of the suspect will be released shortly as he is wanted by police for questioning and is also wanted by the Olympics committee because he won silver.
